１８章
1. イエスがこれらの言葉を語ると、彼は彼の弟子たちと一緒に、かのキデロン川を越えて行かれた。そこには園があって、彼と彼の弟子たちはそこに入って行った。
2. そして、ユダ、彼を売り渡していた者も、その場所を知っていた。イエスはしばしば彼の弟子たちと会合をしていたからである。
3. その時、祭司の長たちやファリサイ派の人々の所から、兵隊や役人を受けていたユダは、ランタンやたいまつや武器を持ち、〔彼らを連れて〕そこにやって来た。
4. そこで、イエスは彼に振りかかってくることを全て悟り、前に進んで行って彼らに仰せになった。「あなたがたは誰を捜しているのか？」
5. 彼らは彼に答えた。「ナザレのイエスだ。」イエスは彼らに仰せになった。「それは私だ。」そして、彼を売り渡したユダも、彼らと一緒に立っていた。
6. ところで、彼が彼らに「それは私だ」と仰せになったとき、彼らは後ろに引き戻され、そして、地に投げ倒された。
7. その時、彼は彼らに再びお尋ねになった。「あなたがたは、誰を求めているのか？」そして、彼らは言った。「ナザレのイエス。」
8. イエスはお答えになった。「私はあなたがたに、それは私だ言っている。あなたがたは私を求めているのだから、これらの者たちは行かせなさい。」
9. それは、かの仰せが実現するためであった。彼はこう仰せになっていた。「あなたが私にお与えになった者を、私は一人も失わなかった。」
10. その時、シモン・ペテロは剣を抜いて、大祭司の僕に振り下ろし、そして撃った。そして彼の右の耳を切り落とした。その僕の名はマルコスであった。
11. そこで、イエスはペテロに仰せになった。「おまえの剣を、その鞘におさめなさい。私の父が私にお授けになった杯は受けなくてはならないではないか？」
12. その時、兵士たちやユダヤ人たちの隊長や役人たちはイエスを捕え、そして彼を拘束した。
13. そして、彼らは彼を最初にアンナスの所に連行した。彼がその年の大祭司であった、カヤファスの義父であったからである。
14. ところで、カヤファスは、ユダヤ人たちに、一人の人がこの民のために死ぬ事は都合の良い事だと、助言した人物であった。
15. そして、シモン・ペテロはイエスについていった。また、もう一人の弟子も同じようにした。さて、その弟子は大祭司の知人であった。そして、イエスと一緒に、大祭司の中庭に入って行った。
16. しかし、ペテロは外の戸口のところに立っていた。そこで、もう一人の、大祭司の知人であった人が出て行って、戸の番をしていた女性に語り、そしてペテロを中に通してやった。
17. その時、戸の番をしていた僕の少女はペテロに言った。「あなたは、この男と一緒にいませんでしたか？」彼は言った。「私ではない。」
18. ところで、炭で火をおこしていた僕たちと役人たちは、そこに立っていた。寒かったので、彼らは暖を取っていたのである。そして、ペテロは彼らと一緒に立っていて、暖を取っていた。
19. その時、大祭司はイエスに彼の弟子たちと、彼の教義について尋ねた。
20. イエスは彼にお答えになった。「私ははっきりとこの世界に語った。私はいつもシナゴーグや神殿で教えていた。そこではユダヤ人たちといつも会っている。そして、私は何も密かに語ってきたことはない。
21. どうしてあなたは私に尋ねるのか？私が語ってきた事を聞いた人に尋ねなさい。確かに、彼らは私が語った事を知っているのだから。」
22. 彼がこれらのことを仰せになったその時、近くに立っていた、役人たちの一人がイエスを平手で打って言った。「お前は大祭司様に、そんな答え方をするのか？」
23. イエスは彼にお答えになった。「もし私が悪い事を言ったなら、その悪事についての証人を立てなさい。しかし、もし良いなら、どうしてあなたは私を打つのか？」
24. その時、アンナスは彼を拘束して大祭司カヤファスのところに送った。
25. ところで、シモン・ペテロは立って暖を取っていた。そこで、彼らは彼に言った。「君も彼の弟子たちの一人ではないのか？」彼はそれを否定し、そして言った。「私は違う！」
26. 大祭司の僕の一人で、ペテロに耳を切り落とされた人の親戚である人が言った。「私はお前があの園に彼と一緒にいたのを見たではないか？」
27. その時、ペテロは再び否定した。するとすぐに雄鶏が鳴いた。
28. その時、彼らはイエスをカヤファスの所から、プラエトリウム[1]に連行した。早朝であった。しかし、彼らは自分たちはプラエトリウムに入って行かなかった。汚れを受けないで、パスカを食べるためにである。
29. その時、ピラトは彼らの所に出て来て言った。「諸君は、この男について何を告訴しているのか？」
30. 彼らは答え、そして彼に言った。「もし彼が悪事をする者でないなら、私たちが彼をあなたに引き渡すようなことは致しません。」
32. そのようにユダヤ人たちが言ったのは、彼が語っていた事、〔すなわち〕彼がどんな死によって死なれるかをお示しになった事が実現するためであった。
33. その時、ピラトはプラエトリウムに再び入り、イエスを呼び、そして彼に言った。「お前はこのユダヤの王なのか？」
34. イエスは彼にお答えになった。「あなたはこのことについて、自分から語っているのか、または他の人が私についてあなたに教えたのか？」
35. ピラトは答えた。「私はユダヤ人か？お前の国とあの祭司の長たちがお前を私に引き渡したのだ。お前は何をしたのか？」
36. イエスはお答えになった。「私の王国は、この世界のものではない。もし私の王国がこの世界のものであったなら、私の僕たちは戦って、私があのユダヤ人たちに引き渡されないようにしただろう。しかし、今は、私の王国はここからのものではない。」
37. それでピラトは彼に言った。「それで、お前は王なのか？」イエスはお答えになった。「あなたが言っている事は正しい。私は王だ。なぜなら、そのために私は生まれてきたのであり、またこのために私はこの世界に来た。それは、真理を証しするためだ。真理にある人は、皆私の声を聞いている。」
38. ピラトは彼に言った。「真理とは何なのか？」そして、彼がこのことを言うと、彼はまたユダヤ人たちの所に出て行った。そして彼らに言った。「私は、彼には落ち度が全くないことがわかった。
39. さて、諸君のためにこのパスカに誰かを釈放する事が慣例となっている。それで、諸君は私にこのユダヤ人の王を釈放する事を求めているのか？」
40. その時、彼らは再び叫んで言った。「この男ではない。バラバだ！」さて、バラバは強盗であった。
Joh 18:1 Having spoken these words, Jesus went out
with His disciples over the winter stream Kidron, where there was a garden. He
and His disciples entered into it.

18:2 And Judas who betrayed Him also
knew the place. For Jesus oftentimes went there with His disciples.
Joh
18:3 Then Judas, having received a band
and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns and
torches and weapons.
Joh
18:4 Then Jesus, knowing all things that
were coming upon Him, went out and said to them, Whom do you seek?
Joh
18:5 They answered Him, Jesus of
Nazareth. Jesus said to them, I AM! And Judas who betrayed Him also stood with
them.
Joh
18:6 Then as soon as He had said to
them, I AM, they went backward and fell to the ground.
Joh
18:7 Then He asked them again, Whom do
you seek? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.
Joh
18:8 Jesus answered, I have told you
that I AM. Therefore if you seek Me, let these go away;
Joh
18:9 (that the word might be fulfilled
which He spoke, "Of those whom You have given Me, I have lost not
one of them").
Joh
18:10 Then Simon Peter, having a sword,
drew it and struck the high priest's servant and cut off his right ear. And the
servant's name was Malchus.
Joh
18:11 Then Jesus said to Peter, Put up
your sword into the sheath. The cup which My Father has given Me, shall I not
drink it?
Joh
18:12 Then the band, and the chiliarch,
and under-officers of the Jews together seized Jesus and bound Him.
Joh 18:13 And they led Him away to Annas first, for he
was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was the high priest that year.
Joh
18:14 And Caiaphas was he who gave
counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the
people.
Joh
18:15 And Simon Peter and another
disciple followed Jesus. That disciple was known to the high priest, and he
went in with Jesus into the court of the high priest.
Joh
18:16 But Peter stood at the door
outside. Then the other disciple went out, the one who was known to the high
priest, and spoke to her who kept the door and brought Peter in.
Joh
18:17 Then the girl who kept the door
said to Peter, Are you not also one of this man's disciples? He said, I
am not.
Joh
18:18 And the servants and officers who
had made a fire of coals stood there, for it was cold. And they warmed themselves.
And Peter stood with them and warmed himself.
Joh
18:19 Then the high priest asked Jesus
of His disciples and of His teaching.
Joh
18:20 Jesus answered him, I spoke openly
to the world. I always taught in the synagogue and in the temple, where the
Jews always resort, and I have said nothing in secret.
Joh
18:21 Why do you ask Me? Ask those who
heard me what I have said to them. Behold, they know what I said.
Joh
18:22 And when He had spoken this way,
one of the officers who stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand,
saying, Do you answer the high priest so?
Joh
18:23 Jesus answered him, If I have
spoken evil, bear witness of the evil; but if well, why do you strike Me?
Joh
18:24 Then Annas had sent Him bound to
Caiaphas the high priest.
Joh
18:25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed
himself. Then they said to him, Are you not also one of his disciples?
He denied and said, I am not.
Joh
18:26 One of the servants of the high
priest, being kinsman to him whose ear Peter cut off, said, Did I not see you
in the garden with him?
Joh
18:27 Peter then denied again. And
immediately a cock crowed.
Joh
18:28 Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas
into the praetorium. And it was early. And they did not go into the praetorium,
that they should not be defiled, and that they might eat the Passover.
Joh
18:29 Then Pilate went out to them and
said, What charge do you bring against this man?
Joh
18:30 They answered and said to him, If
he were not an evildoer, then we would not have delivered him up to you.
Joh
18:31 Then Pilate said to them, You take
him and judge him according to your Law. Then the Jews said to him, It is not
lawful for us to put anyone to death
Joh
18:32 (that the word of Jesus might be
fulfilled, which He spoke signifying what death He was about to die).
Joh
18:33 Then Pilate entered into the
praetorium again and called Jesus and said to him, Are you the king of the
Jews?
Joh
18:34 Jesus answered him, Do you say
this thing of yourself, or did others say it to you about Me?
Joh
18:35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Your
own nation and the chief priests have delivered you to me. What have you done?
Joh
18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not
of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would fight
so that I might not be delivered to the Jews. But now My kingdom is not from
here.
Joh
18:37 Pilate then said to Him, Are you a
king then? Jesus answered, You say it that I am a king. To this end
I was born, and for this cause I came into the world, that I should bear
witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.
Joh
18:38 Pilate said to Him, What is truth?
And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and said to them, I
find no fault in him.
Joh
18:39 But you have a custom that I
should release one to you at the Passover. Then do you desire that I release to
you the king of the Jews?
Joh
18:40 Then they all cried again, saying,
Not this man, but Barabbas! But Barabbas was a robber.
