１１章
1. さて、ある男性が病に臥せっていた。かのマリヤと彼女の姉妹マルサの町、ベタニヤの人ラザロであった。
2. 主の御足に香油を注ぎかけ、その髪でぬぐったのはマリヤであったが、その兄弟ラザロが病気なのであった。
3. そこで、その姉妹たちは使いの者を彼に送って言った。「主よ。ご覧下さい。あなたが愛しておられる者が病気です。」
4. イエスはそれを聞くと、彼は仰せになった。「この病は死ぬものではなく、天の神の栄光のためであって、神の子がそれを通して栄光を現わすためのものだ。」
5. さて、イエスはマルサと彼女の姉妹、そしてラザロとを愛しておられた。
6. そこで、彼が彼〔ラザロ〕が病気である事を聞いた時、彼は彼が滞在なさっていた所に、さらに二日間留まられた。
7. ところで、彼はその弟子たちにこの事の後に仰せになった。「さあ、我々はもう一度ユダに行こう。」
8. 弟子たちは彼に言った。「ラビ、この間、ユダヤ人たちはあなたを石で撃とうとしました。それなのに、あなたはもう一度行かれるのですか？」
9. イエスはお答えになった。「一日には時間ないか？もし、誰かが日中歩いているなら、その人はつまづいてはいない。彼はこの世界の光を見ているからだ。
10. しかし、もしある人が夜中に歩いているなら、彼はつまいている。彼に光がないからだ。」
11. 彼はこれらの事を言われたが、しかし、その後彼は彼らに仰せになった。「私たちの友人のラザロが眠っている。しかし、私は彼を起すために行く。」
12. その時、彼の弟子たちは言った。「主よ、もし、彼が眠っているのでしたら、彼は良くなるでしょう。」
13. しかし、イエスは彼の死について仰せになったのである。しかし、彼らは彼が眠って休んでいることについて語っているのだと思っていた。
14. その時イエスは彼らにはっきりと仰せになった。「ラザロは死んでいる。
15. そして、私はおまえたちのために、そこに居合わせなかった事を喜んでいる。それはおまえたちが信じるためだ。さあ、私たちは彼の所に行こう。」
16. その時、トゥインと呼ばれていたトマスは彼の仲間の弟子たちに言った。「さあ、私たちも行って、彼と一緒に死のう。」
17. そうしてイエスが来られた時、彼は彼がすでに四日間も墓にあることを知られた。
18. さて、ベサニーはエルサレムの近くにあり、約２マイル離れていた。
19. そして、多くのユダヤ人たちが彼女たちの兄弟のことで、彼女達を慰めようとして、マルサやマリヤの周辺にいた女性たちといっしょにいた。
20. その時、マルサはイエスが来られたと聞くと、すぐに行って彼にお会いした。しかし、マリヤは家の中に座っていた。
21. その時マルサはイエスに言った。「主よ、もし、あなたがここにお出でになっていれば、私の兄弟は死ななかったでしょうに。
22. でも、私は今でもあなたが天の神にお求めになる事なら何でも、天の神はあなたにお答えて下さることを知っています。」
23. イエスは彼女に仰せになった。「あなたの兄弟はよみがえる。」
24. マルサは彼に言った。「私は終りの日の復活の時によみがえる事は知っています。」
25. イエスは彼女に仰せになった。「私がよみがえりであり、命なのだ。私を信じている人は、死んでいても、彼は生きる。
26. また、誰でも生きて私を信じている人は、決して死なない。あなたはこれを信じているか？」
27. 彼女は彼に言った。「はい。主よ。私はあなたがキリスト、天の神の御子、この世界に来るべきお方であると信じています。」
28. そして、彼女はこれらの事を言うと、彼女は家に帰って、密かにその姉妹マリヤを呼んで言った。「先生がお出でになった、あなたをお呼びよ。」
29. 彼女はそれを聞くとすぐに立ち上がり、そして彼の所に来た。
30. さて、イエスはまだその町に入っていないで、マルサが彼にお会いした所にいた。
31. その時、家の中で彼女と一緒にいて、彼女を慰めていたユダヤ人たちは、マリヤが立ち上がって急いで出て行くのを見て、彼女の後を追いながら言った。「彼女は墓に行ってそこで泣きたいのだろう。」
32. その時、マリヤがイエスの所に来て、彼にお会いした。彼女は彼の足もとにひれ伏して彼に言った。「主よ、もし、あなたがここにおいででしたら、私の兄弟は死んでいなかったでしょう。」
33. イエスは彼女が泣いているのと、また、泣いている彼女と一緒にいるあのユダヤ人たちとをご覧になると、彼は霊のうちでうめき、そして悩まれた。
34. そして、彼は仰せになった。「あなたがたは、彼をどこに置いているのか？」彼らは彼に言った。「主よ、来てご覧下さい。」
35. イエスは泣かれた。
36. その時、ユダヤ人たちは言った。「見なさい。彼は何と彼を愛しておられた事か！」
37. そして、彼らのうちのある人々は言った。「目の見えない人の両目を開けたこの人であっても、この男を死なせないようにはできなかったのか？」
38. その時、イエスはもう一度ご自分の内でうめき、墓にお出でになった。それはほら穴で、石がそれに置かれていた。
39. イエスは仰せになった。「石をどかしなさい。」死んだ者の姉妹マルサは彼に言った。「主よ、もう、悪臭がございます。彼は死んでからもう四日間もたっておりますから。」
40. イエスは彼女に仰せになった。「もし、あなたが信じているなら、あなたは天の神の栄光を見ると、私は言わなかったか？」
41. その時、彼らは石を死人が置かれている所から取り除けた。すると、イエスはご自分の目を上げ、そして仰せになった。「おとうさま、私はあなたが私に聞いてくださる事を感謝致します。
42. そして、私はあなたがいつも、私に聞いてくださっている事を知っております。しかし、この事を言うのは、私の側に立っているこれらの人々のため、彼らがあなたが私をお遣わしになっている事を信じるためです。」
43. さて、彼はこれらの事を語り終えられると、彼は大声で叫ばれた。「ラザロ、出て来なさい！」
44. すると、死んでいた人が手足を死者に着せる布で巻かれたまま出てきた。また、彼の顔は布で包まれていた。イエスは彼らに仰せになった。「彼をほどいてやりなさい。そして、彼を連れて行ってやりなさい。」
45. その時、マリヤの所に来ていて、イエスがなさった事を見たそのユダヤ人たちの多くは彼を信じた。
46. しかし、彼らのうちの何人かは、ファリサイ派の人々の所に去って行って、彼らにイエスがなさった事を語った。
47. その時、祭司の長達やファリサイ派の人々は議会に集まり、そして言った。「我々はどうしたらよいのか？この男は多くの徴を行っていると言うのに。
48. もし我々が彼をこのまま放っておけば、皆が彼を信じるようになる。そして、ローマ人たちが来て、我々の土地も国家も奪い去ってしまう。」
49. すると、彼らの一人で、その年の大祭司であったカイアファスが彼らに言った。「諸君は何も分かっていない。
50. それに、諸君は民のため、また、全国家が滅亡しないために、一人の人が死ぬ事が我々にとって得策だということを、考えてもいない。」
51. ところで、この事は、彼が自分自身の権威によって言ったのではなく、その年の大祭司であったため、彼はイエスがこの国家のために
52. そして、国家だけではなく、彼が、広く散らされている天の神の子供達が一つに寄せ集めるために死なれることを預言したのである。
53. ところで、その日以来、彼らは彼を殺そうと謀った。
54. それで、イエスはもはやそのユダヤ人たちの間を表立って歩く事はなさらならないで、そこから荒野に近い地域、エフライムと呼ばれる町に行き、そこに彼の弟子達と一緒に留まっておられた。
55. そして、ユダヤ人たちのパスカが迫っていた。また、多くの人々がそのパスカの前に、自分達を清めるために田舎からエルサレムに上ってきていた。
56. その時、彼らはイエスを捜した。そして、彼らは神殿の中に立ちながら、（彼らの間で）語り合った。「あなたはどう思う。彼は祭りにお出でになるだろうか？」
57. さて、祭司の長たちやファリサイ派の人々は、彼を捕まえるために、誰でも、彼がどこにいるのかを知っているなら、その人は（彼は）それを報告するようにと指示を出していた。
Joh 11:1 And there was a certain sick one, Lazarus of
Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
Joh
11:2 (And it was that Mary who
anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother
Lazarus was sick.)

11:3 Then his sisters sent to Him,
saying, Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.
Joh
11:4 When Jesus heard, He said, This
sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, so that the Son of God
might be glorified by it.
Joh
11:5 And Jesus loved Martha and her
sister and Lazarus.
Joh
11:6 Therefore, when He had heard that
he was sick, then indeed He remained two days in the place where He was.
Joh
11:7 Then after that He said to the
disciples, Let us go into Judea again.
Joh
11:8 The disciples said to Him, Rabbi,
the Jews lately have sought to stone You, and do You go there again?
Joh
11:9 Jesus answered, Are there not
twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble
because he sees the light of the world.
Joh
11:10 But if anyone walks in the night,
he stumbles because there is no light in him.
Joh
11:11 He said these things; and after
that He said to them, Our friend Lazarus sleeps. But I go so that I may awaken
him out of sleep.
Joh
11:12 Then His disciples said, Lord, if
he sleeps, he will get well.
Joh
11:13 But Jesus spoke of his death, but
they thought that He had spoken of taking rest in sleep.
Joh
11:14 Then Jesus said to them plainly,
Lazarus is dead.
Joh
11:15 And I am glad for your sakes that
I was not there, in order that you may believe. But let us go to him.
Joh
11:16 Then Thomas (he being called Twin)
said to his fellow disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with Him.
Joh
11:17 Then when Jesus came, He found him
already being held in the tomb four days.
Joh
11:18 And Bethany was near Jerusalem,
fifteen stadia away.
Joh
11:19 And many of the Jews came to
Martha and Mary in order to comfort them concerning their brother.
Joh
11:20 Then when Martha heard that Jesus
was coming, she met Him. But Mary was sitting in the house.
Joh
11:21 Then Martha said to Jesus, Lord,
if You had been here, my brother would not have died.
Joh
11:22 But I know that even now, whatever
You will ask of God, God will give You.
Joh
11:23 Jesus said to her, Your brother
shall rise again.
Joh
11:24 Martha said to Him, I know that he
shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
Joh
11:25 Jesus said to her, I am the
Resurrection and the Life! He who believes in Me, though he die, yet he shall
live.
Joh
11:26 And whoever lives and believes in
Me shall never die. Do you believe this?
Joh
11:27 She said to Him, Yes, Lord, I have
believed that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who has come into the world.
Joh
11:28 And saying these things, she went
away and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Teacher has come and
calls you.
Joh
11:29 As soon as she heard, she arose
quickly and came to him.
Joh
11:30 Now Jesus had not yet come into
the town, but was in that place where Martha met Him.
Joh
11:31 Then the Jews who were with her in
the house, and comforted her, when they saw that Mary rose up hastily and went
out, they followed her, saying, She is going to the tomb to weep there.
Joh
11:32 Then when Mary had come where
Jesus was, seeing Him, Mary fell down at His feet, saying to Him, Lord, if You
had been here, my brother would not have died.
Joh
11:33 Then when He saw her weeping, and
also the Jews who came with her weeping, Jesus groaned in the spirit and
troubled Himself.
Joh
11:34 And He said, Where have you
laid him? They said to Him, Lord, come and see.
Joh
11:35 Jesus wept.
Joh
11:36 Then the Jews said, Behold how He
loved him!
Joh
11:37 And some of them said, Was not
this Man who opened the eyes of the blind able also to cause that even this one
should not have died?
Joh
11:38 Then Jesus, groaning in Himself
again, came to the tomb. And it was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
Joh
11:39 Jesus said, Take away the stone.
Martha, the sister of him who died, said to Him, Lord, by this time he stinks.
For it is the fourth day.
Joh
11:40 Jesus answered her, Did I not say
to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?
Joh
11:41 Then they took away the stone
where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, Father,
I thank You that You have heard Me.
Joh
11:42 And I know that You hear Me
always, but because of the people who stand by I said it, so that they
may believe that You have sent Me.
Joh
11:43 And saying these things, He cried
with a loud voice, Lazarus, Here! Outside!
Joh
11:44 And he who had died came out,
bound hand and foot with sheets, and his face was bound with a cloth. Jesus
said to them, Untie him and let him go!
Joh
11:45 Then many of the Jews who came to
Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on Him.
Joh
11:46 But some of them went to the
Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done.
Joh
11:47 Then the chief priests and
Pharisees gathered a sanhedrin, and said, What can we do? For this man does
many miracles.
Joh
11:48 If we let him alone this way, all
will believe on him. And the Romans will come and take away both our place and
nation.
Joh
11:49 And one of them, Caiaphas, being
the high priest of that year, said to them, You do not know anything at all,
Joh
11:50 nor do you consider that it is
expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole
nation perish.
Joh
11:51 And he did not speak this of
himself, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die
for the nation;
Joh
11:52 and not for that nation only, but
also that He should gather together in one the children of God who were
scattered abroad.
Joh
11:53 Then from that day they took
counsel together that they might kill Him.
Joh
11:54 Therefore Jesus walked no more
openly among the Jews; but He went away from there to a country near the
wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and continued there with His disciples.
Joh
11:55 And the Jews' Passover was near.
And many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the Passover in order
to purify themselves.
Joh
11:56 Then they sought Jesus, and spoke
with one another as they stood in the temple, What does it seem to you, that He
will not at all come to the feast?
Joh
11:57 And all the chief priests and the
Pharisees had given commands, that if anyone knew where He was, he should make it
known so that they might seize Him.
